Inktense blocks coloring fabric

18 Sep

I got out my Derwent Inktense blocks again and made a lunch bag for my sister-in-law’s birthday.  I stitched the hummingbird first, using the free-motion attachment on my machine and then came back in with the Inktense blocks and fabric medium to paint the bird.  I really like this method.lunchbag

Thread Sketching and Fabric Paint

25 Jun

Thread sketching is a method of free motion stitching to create a drawing on fabric with thread and your sewing machine.  I wasn’t sure how to go about it, I knew doing it free form was not going to work for me.  But I found the idea of working from a paper sketch.  Here is a tutorial from On Point.  The only thing I did different is I worked from the back.  In doing so you may want to make a mirror copy on your image and the thread that will show on the finished work should be in your bobbin.  That way you don’t have to worry about getting every little bit of paper off your project

I used Derwent Inktense Blocks on fabric to create a watercolor effect.  I love these paints, they work on many different surfaces.  They are solid so they travel well.  I have not put they through the wash yet, but with the fabric medium I used it should be washable. Something you would want to test before painting if the piece is going to be washed.
